What is CEREC®?
CEREC®, which is short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, uses CAD/CAM technology to create porcelain crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays. Using 3D technology, CEREC® takes a virtual impression of your smile that allows it to create precise, accurate restorations, selecting a color and shape that will blend in seamlessly with your smile.
What are the benefits of CEREC?
Traditional restorations usually take several visits to complete impressions, creation and placement. However, with CEREC®, wetake impressions, and then create and place restorations in just one visit, saving patients a lot of time and stress. Plus, there is no need to take messy, gooey impressions, as CEREC® uses 3D photography to get an accurate impression of your smile. Because the entire process is computer-aided, restorations are completed quickly and precisely.
What is the placement process?
After the removal of all decayed or infected material from the tooth, Dr. Torrado will shape the tooth to fit your new restoration. Then, we use the CEREC® to take impressions of the smile, which will then be used to create a custom, computer-generated crown out of porcelain. After the crown is created, Dr. Torrado will place it to ensure it fits properly and is comfortable for you, making any adjustments as needed. In just one visit you will have a strong, functional, healthy smile!
Why do you use porcelain to create crowns?
Porcelain is a strong, long-lasting material that can be made to look exactly like natural teeth. Therefore, porcelain crowns help to strengthen the smile while also offering a seamless, beautiful look. Plus, because porcelain is biocompatible, it won’t cause irritation due to metal sensitivity.
